Canada opens its doors for the Vancouver 2010 games. Winter Olympic merchandise is now on sale at The Bay downtown for gear like hockey jerseys, clothing, & accessories.

It’s official: the “Olympic Superstore” is open at The Bay in downtown Vancouver (674 Granville Street, 604-681-6211). Why is that special? Well, it’s a 1,890 square metre (21,000 square foot) retail space that sells only winter Olympic merchandise.

Jeff Sherman, CEO of the Hudson’s Bay Company, says: “Hudson’s Bay Company will bring a world-class department store experience for Canadians and international visitors to the Games. Our company is proud to partner with VANOC on offering consumers the largest assortment of Vancouver 2010 products and Vancouver 2010 Canadian Olympic Team Apparel.”

A few of the items for sale include:

  • Collectible Coins
  • Mascots: plush toys, apparel, accessories and pins
  • Collectible Pins and Pin Sets
  • Torch Replica Souvenirs and the Torch Relay Book

Olympics Hockey

Olympic hockey tickets might be scarce, but those with an Olympic spirit can still cheer on the home team by wearing Team Canada apparel. Red or white replica jerseys are for sale, the same ones that all hockey players will be wearing.

The uniform “makes a great statement about Canada and our athletes. It speaks to our official colours and heritage but with a modern, youthful spirit. These items are a perfect way for Canadians to feel a part of Team Canada and show their support of the athletes on home ice and snow in 2010,” VANOC’s Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Furlong, said.

A few special services will be available to shoppers during the games in February 2010. A concierge service will help shoppers ship within Canada or overseas, as well as deliver purchases to any downtown hotel. There will also be extended hours starting in February.

“We’ve seen interest in the 2010 Games merchandise growing steadily and are pleased to now offer more choice than ever before at this Superstore,” said Caley Denton, VANOC’s vice president of ticketing and consumer marketing.
