Vancouver is a multi-cultural city in British Columbia, Canada that will beguile with its diversity and attractions.
There is so much to see and do in Vancouver it may take more than one vacation to take in the sights and sounds of this vibrant city. The downtown area is mix of different eras. Vancouver's Historic Gastown and ChinatownThe historical Gastown with its quaint gas lights and complete with full working gas clock is an instant travel back in time. Traditional stores and restaurants make this a part of the city where visitors can browse for hours at a time. At night, thousands of tiny lights give the place a fairytale appearance. Just a few hundred metres away from Gastown and contrast this with the new and modern waterfront area complete with Multiplex cinema and inspiring architecture makes time travel almost seem a reality. Also within walking distance is the largest Chinatown in Canada. From gardens to stores selling delicacies to spices and herbs on stalls, this area will keep the visitor enthralled as they discover the traditional wares on display. Take the Sea Bus to Grouse MountainA visit to Vancouver would not be complete without a trip to Grouse Mountain. A regular sea bus runs from the waterfront across the inlet to North Vancouver, and an onward bus ride goes to the base of Grouse Mountain. There a sky lift rises over the steep mountainside to the top of the mountain where spectacular views await. A surprise at the top is a restaurant with magnificent open views down the mountain and across the water beneath. The restaurant has a good a la carte menu and where better to enjoy lunch than sitting 4000 feet high and looking the airborne birds in the eye! After a pleasant meal there are helicopter rides, a lumberjack show, and for those keen to reach the summit, a final chairlift ride to the 4,100 foot very top of the mountain. For the wildlife enthusiast there are wolves and grizzly bear, all held in restricted areas but free running and available to see regularly in their natural habitat. In the height of summer there are long lines, especially for the descent, but the friendly Grouse Mountain staff are ever present to make the wait as pleasant as possible. Stanley Park for Garden EnthusiastsStanley Park holds many surprises, from stunning beaches to colourful gardens and a display of totem poles. At over 1000 acres, the easiest way to see the Park is to take a tramway ride. This offers the best views and saves on shoe leather. Vancouver is not just any city, but a place where many cultures combine and together with a host of visitor attractions offers an ultimate vacation destination.
