The Sunshine Coast is one of the most lovely shorelines in British Columbia. Below are resources and travel ideas for Gibsons, Halfmoon Bay and Sechelt, Canada. They are all located just west of the Langdale Ferry Terminal, where ferries land from Horseshoe Bay in Vancouver.

This area is rife with BC Tourism-approved bed and breakfasts, high quality hotels and award winning restaurants that specialize in west coast seafood.

Gibsons, BC

Take a 10-minute drive west of the Langdale Ferry Terminal and come upon the cute town of Gibsons Landing. Known for its top notch art galleries and abundance of artists, the best way to get a feel for the town is by taking an art tour.

Cindy Buis of Artworks Tours (604-886-1200) is a great resource for Gibsons’ heritage harbour front, local atmosphere and art galleries. She will also happily point out the site where the famous Beachcombers TV series was filmed.

Sechelt Canada: Restaurants

The enthusiasm of Chef Spence Watts for west coast seafood is infectious. His classy restaurant serves inventive dishes that will likely knock a few socks off.

Although the menu changes seasonally to utilize the freshest ingredients, definitely try the mahi mahi. The adventurous can order the Chef’s Table and let Spence create specifically designed dishes for small groups.

A casual place to grab a bite to go or hang out in the informal atmosphere, Wheatberries serves organic fair trade coffee and is most recognized for its freshly baked cookies. For lunch, light soups and sandwiches are as good as they come.

Sechelt Hotels

The Sunshine Coast specializes in bed and breakfasts. There are over 100 of them along the 180 km (110 mile) stretch of coastline. Call up Mary and Ian Winn at the below B&B for a tried and tested accommodation.

Personal service and sparkling clean rooms are the highlights at Marian’s on the Coast bed and breakfast. It's equally impressive, too, as the couple welcomes small pets and has a whole doggy daycare/spa-type service available.

For those with only two legs, there is a small suite for singles or a couple and a “cottage” complete with a full kitchen and second loft bed. A computer set up with internet access sits in the common area, along with a kitchen and dining room for meals. Rates range from $129-$149 CAD for the suite and $139-$179 CAD per night for the cottage. Weekly rates are available.

Halfmoon Bay Hotels

Possibly the most unique and delightful hotel in Halfmoon Bay, Rockwater Secret Cove Resort (5356 Ole’s Cove Road, Halfmoon Bay, 604-885-7038) tops most “Best of” lists. It’s no wonder, as the resort has the exceptional Tenthouse Suites that are part tent, part treetop camping, but full luxury.

Rooms in the main lodge are also available, as are one, two and three bedroom cabins. Rates start at $209 CAD for an ocean view room in the lodge and $419 CAD for a Tenthouse Suite in the high season.
