Things to See in BC During the Winter Olympic Games in February

Vancouver and surrounding areas of British Columbia offers tourists amazing sporting, cultural and city experiences while visiting BC for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Due to an amazing array of activities and beautiful scenery to explore, British Columbia paints a wonderful backdrop for the 2010 Olympic Games. For international travelers and sporting aficionadas coming to Canada for the winter games in February, 2010 there are amazing sights to see.

British Columbia (B.C.) is the province on the west coast of Canada with six regions and three major cities. As many people know, the 2010 Olympic Games will be held in Vancouver, the capital city of B.C, as well as in the skiing town of Whistler in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

The city of Vancouver is situated on the coast and in the most southern tip of British Columbia, and borders Washington State in the United States of America.

Vancouver is lush with green foliage, cool with blue water, and gentile with historical and preserved sights. Keep in mind the following sightseeing locations while considering or planning a visit to this southern slice of British Columbia:

Stanley Park

The Stanley Park seawall is a great place to walk or ride a bike. Enjoy mountain, ocean, forest, and cityscape views while walking the spectacular water front paths. While here, stop by the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Center to learn more from a one of the largest aquariums on the continent. Stanley Park has an informative website with complete information and trail maps.

Granville Island

While downtown, explore Granville Island, the coolest little island on the waterfront complete with quaint little sights, including small studios, live theater, impromptu street performances, and farmer’s markets. Also, check out the great bars and restaurants and stroll the boardwalk to view the many unique float homes where Vancouverites live peacefully amidst nature in the middle of a huge city.

Grouse Mountain

Rise up the mountain on the rail car or take the challenge and hike it. This place isn’t known as a natural stair master for nothing. For those that prefer the view instead of the huff and puff, take a ride up on a tram to fully enjoy a much wider panorama of the city.

Robson Street

The nexus of shopping and strolling, Robson Street is where the fashion inclined frequent to shop hip boutiques and haute couture. Robson Street is the place to hang out and be seen. As it isn’t unusual to actually see a celebrity here, Robson Street is to Vancouver what Hollywood is to Los Angeles.

Vancouver Lookout

This is the place to enjoy a full 360 degree turn of the city. Make sure to visit on a cloud-free day for the best views. It is a quick trip that can be scheduled in a day of sightseeing.

Canada Place

Canada Place is a giant harbor in downtown Vancouver where nearly a million passengers come through on cruise ships each year, with Alaska being the most popular cruise destination. This harbor includes the Vancouver Convention Center and an Exhibition Center.

UBC Museum of Anthropology

Not a regular museum made of bricks and beams, this museum was designed by a famous architect out of glass and concrete. This museum houses historical artifacts such as First Nation carvings and totem poles.

Beautiful scenery, blue bodies of water and a region full of class and culture, there is a world of culture and landscape to enjoy in British Columbia. Come to Vancouver, British Columbia to enjoy the ambiance while enjoying the rare spectacle that is the Olympic Games. Many natural wonders will be awaiting its international visitors in 2010 in Vancouver and the entire province of British Columbia, where the new provincial motto is “The Best Place on Earth”.
