It is not surprising: the Emerald Lake Lodge is located on the banks of remote Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park, which – compared to the livelier Banff and Jasper National Parks – is the quiet neighbour of these two more famous Canadian National Parks. The road leading up to Emerald Lake from the Trans-Canada Highway does not promise what awaits the unsuspecting traveler at the end of the relatively unspectacular drive: one of the most beautiful sights the Canadian Rockies have to offer - without the masses of people found in neighbouring Banff or Jasper National Park. Emerald Lake is a scenic jewel of the Rocky Mountains and still offers silence in a beautiful natural surrounding. Anybody who walks away from the parking lot at the end of the road is baffled by the silence this area provides.

And the Emerald Lake Lodge enhances this experience of nature's silence: there are no televisions in the nicely furnished rooms with fieldstone fireplaces and down duvets. The only entertainment are the lake and the beautiful mountains that surround it. Guests marvel at the intense turquoise color of the lake, the beautiful scenery and the wildlife which often can be viewed close to the lodge – bears included. And the best thing is that the Emerald Lake Lodge is only a twenty minute drive west of Lake Louise, Alberta.

"I always say that you lose half your pulse when you cross the bridge and arrive at Emerald Lake Lodge. There is just something about this location - it's one of the most photographed places in the Rockies – and our guests appreciate that they can be immersed in nature all day, and then come back to the lodge and sip unique boutique wines and enjoy sophisticated Rocky Mountain Cuisine," explains Lisa Vinderskov, Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts' Director of Sales and Marketing. "The Condé

Nast ranking is fantastic, because it tells us that the lodge's rustic elegance and peaceful silence is just what travelers are looking for in these times of uncertainty and stress."

History of Emerald Lake Lodge

Originally built in 1902 Emerald Lake Lodge's history is long compared to other resorts in the area. Pat and Connie O'Connor, the owners of Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts purchased Emerald Lodge in 1980, renovated it and reopened in 1986. They saw the potential of the beautiful scenery and didn't let problems during renovation waver them in their decision to make this a very special place in the Canadian Rockies. And their success proves them right: Conde Nast's award is only one of the praises the Emerald Lake Lodge has received over the years. It proves that the O'Connors were right in their original feelings about this place and the lodge.
