Drive through the town centre of Sidney, BC, pass the yachts moored in the marina, and curve around a street that seemingly leads to nowhere. Tucked at the end of the road you’ll find the luxury hotel Miraloma on the Cove, a 4.5 star accommodation just north of Victoria. Warm earthy tones and a welcoming lobby filled with wood furnishings greet you at the door. Get ready to relax.
Whether you live on Vancouver Island and need an escape or come from across the world looking for a peaceful place to rest your head, Sidney is a pleasant area from which to explore the island. Or, if unwinding in your vacation residence for the weekend is more your style, just hangout at Miraloma and you’ll be well taken care of.
Suites are spacious studio, one and two bedroom rooms, all equipped with full kitchens and completely furnished as if you were at home. Business travellers can hook up their laptops and take advantage of the complimentary internet, or go downstairs to the full boardroom where a guest computer is available.
For a quiet night in a one bedroom suite, you’re all set with TV’s in the living room and bedroom, a DVD player, and a fireplace to keep your toes warm or create ambiance in the summer. Families are encouraged to take advantage of the classic games left in-suite: Scrabble, Monopoly and Yahtze, to name a few, and everyone is welcome to the 8:30pm warm cookies and hot chocolate left out in the lobby. If you’re staying for an extended visit, stacker washer and dryers are available in most one and two bedroom suites.
Spa bathrooms have both a soaker tub and large shower, as well as heated stone floors. If the bath somehow isn’t enticing enough, take a dip under the stars in the outdoor hot tub. Enclosed in a gazebo on private property, breathe in the fresh night air while giving your body a much-deserved break.
Miraloma on the Cove itself is the perfect place to eat. The in-suite kitchens are not only stylish, but filled with everything you need to make a full meal. Groceries can be bought at Thrifty Foods (9810 Seventh Street) or Safeway (2345 Beacon Avenue), in downtown Sidney.
Dining out is also a treat, though. Adjacent to Miraloma is The Latch Inn & Restaurant (2328 Harbour Road, 250-656-4015), serving up a fusion of Italian and French cuisine; also within walking distance is Dockside Grill (2320 Harbour Road, 250-656-0828), the creative minds behind another Sidney favourite, Fish on Fifth (9812 Fifth Street, 250-656-4022). Right on and near Beacon Street downtown are many independent restaurants and cafes worth checking out.
A night on the town is only a quick drive down to Victoria, where you can see award winning theatre, dine at a wide variety of restaurants or head to the pub for a pint.
