Better yet, save some money and the environment with a green Halloween. Visit the thrift stores in Victoria, BC, for great do-it-yourself costumes. The Salvation Army (525 Johnson Street), St. Vincent DePaul (833 Yates Street) and Value Village (1810 Store Street) are all highlighting their Halloween goodies help you pick out some great costumes.

Haunted Victoria, BC

Victoria, BC, doesn’t need a special holiday to celebrate its ghostly-ness. Guided walking tours, the Ghostly Walks, take place every night during the summer (mid-June to mid-September) and on weekends throughout the year. During October, several guided tours are run every evening with extra tours the week before Halloween. These tours are historically accurate and have been organized by John Adams, a long-time historian, who has been leading ghost tours in Victoria since 1970.

For an indoor haunted attraction, visit the Haunted House at Victoria College of Art (1625 Bank Street). Local theatre group, Theatre SKAM, has partnered with the Homegrown Collective and local musicians and artists to create a three-story haunted house. Visitors can walk through the haunted house at their own pace, but must be aware of Zombies.

Where to Get a Pumpkin in Victoria, BC

Selecting a pumpkin to carve is a fun experience for children and a long-standing Halloween tradition and there’s an art to it. It has to be a crisp, sunny Autumn day and you must bring some hot apple cider. There are a few places just outside of Victoria, BC, where you can go pick-your-own pumpkin.

  1. 1Michell Brother’s Farm (2451 Island View Road, Saanichton): The fields of this farm are packed with giant orange pumpkins and the country store is stocked with many other supplies for the perfect Halloween feast.
  2. The Pumpkin Patch Farm Stand (7120 Veyaness Road, Saanichton): With a name like “pumpkin patch,” you can be sure that this farm stand will have the pumpkin you are looking for.

Corn Mazes and Halloween Activities in Victoria, BC

A child-friendly Halloween experience is not complete without first traipsing through a corn maze, smelling the fresh scent of hay on a hayride or visiting a child-friendly haunted house.

Galey Farms (4150 Blenkinsop Road) in Victoria, BC, hosts an annual Pumpkinfest, complete with hayrides, a farm train and corn maze. The Farm also has a petting zoo and child-friendly haunted house.

The Haliburton Community Organic Farm (741 Haliburton Road) will be hosting a Halloween pumpkin carving, craft and farm tour event on October 31, 2009 from 1pm-4pm.
