Terrace Beach Resort, Ucluelet, BC - ReviewInspiring Accommodation on Canada's Vancouver Island
Terrace Beach Resort offers a serene yet playful home away from home, a perfect base for exploring all the Pacific Rim region has to offer.
Located within Ucluelet and sandwiched between two areas of the Pacific Rim National Park, Terrace Beach Resort is owned by actor Jason Priestley, best known for his role as Brandon on the television series Beverly Hills, 90210. Designed to invoke the spirit of a 1920s fishing village, with warm wooden boardwalks built up over temperate rainforest leading to oceanfront cabins and secluded Terrace Beach itself, Terrace Beach Resort also conjures up whimsical images of the Star Wars Ewok Village. Travel the Wild Pacific TrailThe property is adjacent to the renowned Wild Pacific Trail, famed for its easy walking route, windswept pines and intimidating cliff-top views of the thrashing sea. Pass by the lighthouse at Amphitrite Point, or lazily view it from the comfort of your room via a closed-circuit television connection. A side route at the far end of the Terrace Beach boardwalk offers a shortcut to the Wild Pacific path. Terrace Beach Resort Amenities: Seaside Cabins and Cozy SuitesTerrace Beach Resort offers a few different accommodation types tailored to a variety of budgets. These include bachelor, one or two bedroom suites; boardwalk lofts; ocean view lofts; and beachfront cabins. Each suite is unique and can include patio barbecues, viewing decks, whirlpool tubs, LCD TVs and DVD players. The cabins are tall, narrow, and densely packed but private, with fully equipped kitchenettes (albeit without ovens) and cozy queen-sized beds. Terrace Beach makes it easy to relax: throw a fresh salmon, stuffed with lemon and wrapped in tin foil, onto the patio barbecue (if your fishing skills are lacking, pick up a fresh one in town at the Co-Op or nearby seafood shop) and watch the pines darken to silhouettes over an out-of-this-world jewel-toned sunset in bright amethysts and ambers. Waves crashing softly nearby and the pungent scent of washed-up sea debris make the daily stresses of life seem far, far away. For those seeking more direct entertainment, the office provides a large selection of DVDs and board games available for guest use, as well as free wireless Internet connections. And Terrace Beach is entirely pet-friendly, asking only a nominal pet charge per stay. Activities In and Around UclueletThe resort makes a convenient home base for the endless activities on offer in the Pacific Rim region, including surfing or strolling the endless serenity of Long Beach, joining a zodiac tour to view humpback whales in the Broken Group Islands, walking the Pacific Rim rain forest trail or taking a short drive north up to Tofino and visiting its many shops and galleries. And of course, the town of Ucluelet is an increasingly attractive destination; branding itself a resort community, it still retains the charm and feel of a small fishing village and is far less tourist-choked than Tofino, its northern neighbor. Deer trustingly wander the streets with their fawns, and wildlife can be viewed practically anywhere. Ucluelet's culinary options range from the high-class dining experience (Norwoods) to casual comfort fair (Ukee Dogs), and good coffee may seem elusive but is easily found if you know where to look: Wild Heather Booksellers, Cynamoka Coffee House and Image West Gifts. And a small aquarium near the harbor demystifies the local sea life, some of which, like the rainbow of sea stars and anemones, can be readily viewed right on Terrace Beach.
