Just outside of Vancouver, Harrison Hot Springs Resort and Spa in Western Canada is a haven for wellness travel.

The local Coast Salish Native people have been using the hot springs in the Harrison Hot Springs area before the European settlers “discovered” them in 1858. It was believed that the waters were a healing place and could rejuvenate people from such conditions as respiratory ailments, aches and pains, skin disease and even arthritis.

Soaking, breathing and drinking the hot springs mineral water were ways in which the west coast Salish natives could attain lifelong health. The hot springs will keep bubbling as long as there is sickness in the world, is the belief, and people today still flock to Harrison Hot Springs to soak up the healing waters.

Harrison Hot Springs Resort and Spa

Situated overlooking Harrison Lake, the Harrison Hot Springs Resort and Spa is the essential accommodation to stay at. The small town was dubbed “The Spa of Canada” in 1926 when the resort was originally built. Many additions over the years have seen vast changes and upgrades to the property and there are now four wings and private cottages that make up the hotel.

In the 1940’s, the heyday of the property was in full swing. A testament to this time, the Copper Room still operates as the place to dine and dance. Photos of glamorous ladies in halter dresses and men in tailored suits line the restaurant’s walls, while Fraser Valley cuisine is served with impeccable service.

Luxury Spa and Mineral Pools

The full service Healing Springs Spa is unique in its close proximity to the hotel’s mineral pools. A spa treatment and hot spring soak make for the perfect combination of relaxation and soothing rejuvenation. Massages extend from relaxation and reflexology, to Shiatsu, deep tissue and hot stone therapy. The expert practitioners can customize your treatment to focus on certain areas and will make sure you’re comfortable every step of the way.

Once your body is free of knots and stress, walk out to the five resort pools: the outdoor freeform pool is kept at 32-34°C, the adult pool at 35-38°C, and the lap pool at 30°C. Indoors, another lap pool awaits, as does the hottest of the pools at 38-40°C. For a special treat, book the private Mineral Hot Springs Bath within the spa and spend 20 luxuriating minutes surrounded by healing water.

Outdoor Activities

After settling into the resort or before having a treatment, get outdoors in the gorgeous Fraser Valley setting. The Guest Services Department of the hotel can set up activities like golf, fishing, boating, water sports, nature hikes and eagle watching for solo travellers, groups, families and couples.
