Walk-on passengers pay under ten dollars for a round trip and bikes cost a few dollars more. Bowen Island's proximity to the city makes it a perfect day trip getaway for all ages and fitness levels. Walking BowenFor children, the elderly or those whose fitness level isn't up to hiking, one can enjoy a nice walk on Bowen. Take a guided tour of the island's flora and fauna or go solo. The visitor is in Crippen Regional Park as they step off the little ferry at Snug Cove. Walk straight up Government road and they'll soon be at the trail that circles Killarney Lake. There are several different directions one can go. One leads past fish ladders and a lagoon. The other passes the Memorial Gardens. There are picnic areas, toilet facilities and a horse paddock. The stroller will be able to take in the sight of birch lined meadows and rich pine forest around a tranquil lake, full of ducks, herons and other waterfowl. If one does make it to the top, one will be rewarded with a gorgeous view of the Sunshine Coast, the Lower Mainland and Washington State. There is a platform at the summit that one can picnic or sunbathe on. The hike down can be a bit tricky with some twisting corners and loose rock so make sure to give yourself time before it gets dark!
